In the past year, the usage of this term has increased by 230%. It first appeared in 1854 in a book by American writer Henry David Thoreau. Today, 'brain rot' is widely used in journalism.
Researchers believe that this term has a direct connection to the viral Skibidi Toilet videos created by Oleksii Herasymov. They have noted the emergence of 'brain rot language', including terms like 'skibidi' (nonsense) and 'ohio' (strange).
It is worth mentioning that according to the Cambridge Dictionary, the word of the year 2024 is 'manifest'.
