Opposition Surge: Tisza Party Leads Orbán’s Fidesz by 19% in Hungary.
Hungary’s Parliamentary Election Landscape Shifts
According to UATV: A recent poll from the 21 Research Center reveals that Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party has overtaken Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party by a margin of 16 to 19 percentage points in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Specifically, Tisza commands 56% support among voters, while Fidesz trails at just 37%.
Looking at the broader electorate, Tisza holds a 12-point advantage over Fidesz. The survey estimates that Tisza has roughly 900,000 more supporters than Fidesz. However, a pro-government think tank predicts that Fidesz will still win 66 out of 106 single-member districts, compared to 39 for the opposition Tisza Party.
Outlook for Both Parties
A critical factor is the situation in Budapest, where Fidesz is not expected to win any districts. These figures may signal a shift in the country’s political landscape, especially after a March 27 pre-election rally for Viktor Orbán in the city of Győr was disrupted by protests.
As a result, the prospects for both parties in the upcoming elections remain uncertain, given the opposition’s momentum and shifting voter sentiment.
The evolving political scene in Hungary reflects growing opposition activity, which could upend the traditional power balance. Notably, the poll results point to rising dissatisfaction with the current government, potentially influencing voter turnout. Amid active protests and increasing opposition support, the forthcoming parliamentary elections may prove pivotal for the nation’s political direction.
