Telegram founder Pavel Durov will remain in custody in France for another 48 hours. This was reported by AFP, citing sources. The decision was made by an investigating judge on Sunday, August 25. Durov was arrested at Le Bourget airport near Paris on the evening of August 24.

According to French law, the detention period before interrogation can last a maximum of 96 hours. After that, the judge must decide whether to release Durov or charge him and keep him in custody.

«According to a source close to the investigation, the investigating judge handling the case extended the detention of the 39-year-old Durov on Sunday evening. This initial detention period for interrogation can last a maximum of up to 96 hours. When this detention phase ends, the judge can decide to release him or charge him and keep him in custody», – write the journalists.

The French Ministry of Justice issued an arrest warrant for Durov as part of an investigation into crimes including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime, and terrorism propaganda. He is allegedly accused of failing to take measures to stop the criminal use of his platform.
