Ukrainian Pensioners Abroad and in Occupied Areas Must Verify Identity by April 1.
Pensioner Verification in Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian pensioners who are internally displaced, reside in temporarily occupied territories, or live abroad must complete mandatory identity verification by April 1. Failure to comply will result in the suspension of their pension payments. This new measure is designed to enhance oversight and security for pension distribution. This initiative is part of broader reforms to the social safety net following Russia's full-scale invasion.
The following categories of pensioners are required to undergo this verification process:
- Individuals residing in temporarily occupied territories;
- Citizens who have left these occupied areas;
- Pensioners staying abroad for more than 183 days.
It is crucial to note that starting January 1, 2026, the Pension Fund of Ukraine will permanently terminate payments to individuals who have not completed in-person identification by December 31, 2025.
Methods for Identity Confirmation
Pensioners can confirm their identity through several methods: video identification, a personal visit, using an electronic signature, or consular identification. To check the results of a video identification, individuals must log into their personal account on the Pension Fund of Ukraine's web portal and navigate to the 'My Applications' section. These steps aim to ensure fairness and transparency within Ukraine's pension system.
This new policy forms part of the Ukrainian government's efforts to improve the social security system amidst ongoing military and economic challenges. Specifically, it seeks not only to reduce potential payment fraud but also to enhance the protection of pensioners' rights during difficult circumstances. Implementing such measures is also intended to bolster public trust in state institutions during a time of crisis.
