North Korean military engineers assist Russia in Ukraine, - The Guardian.
According to The Guardian, Russia has enlisted military engineers from North Korea to target ballistic missiles at Ukraine.
The death of some North Koreans operating in the occupied territories of Ukraine is confirmed by sources in Kyiv and Seoul.
According to Ukrainian sources, dozens of North Korean military personnel are behind Russian lines and supporting launch systems for KN-23 missiles.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun told lawmakers in Seoul that it is "highly likely" North Korean officers have been deployed to fight alongside Russians, and several have died during attacks. Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Information Warfare in Ukraine, also confirmed the deaths of some North Koreans in Russia.
The Guardian emphasizes that North Korea benefits from participating in the war against Ukraine as it can test its weapons, gain combat experience, and strengthen its positions with an international ally.
It is estimated that Pyongyang provided about half of the larger-caliber ammunition used this year, totaling over 2 million shells. KN-23 missiles were also supplied and used in numerous strikes on Ukraine last winter.
Moscow and Pyongyang deny weapon sales, though they confirm strengthening ties. A Kremlin official dismissed reports of North Korean troop deployment in Ukraine as "another fake news".
