The EU's military aid plan for Ukraine worth 40 billion euros has failed.

Collapse of the Kallas plan: EU cuts aid to Ukraine

The chief diplomat of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, planned to secure up to 40 billion euros of military aid for Ukraine. However, following a meeting of EU leaders in Brussels, Kallas' plan was significantly scaled back due to a lack of support from key countries. Initially, the supply of 1.5 million artillery shells was proposed, but Hungary vetoed this. Even the scaled-back plans did not receive enough support in the EU.

In addition to the European Union, other countries are also refusing to provide more aid to Ukraine, citing budgetary issues or preferring bilateral assistance. However, Ukraine can still rely on support from EU countries, with the exception of Hungary.

Kallas was unable to secure sufficient support from key countries and influential officials and also did not conduct proper consultations. This has dealt a significant blow to her authority, and European diplomats are expressing their concern. However, plans to aid Ukraine do not cease, and next week a summit on Ukraine will be held, which President Zelensky will attend.
