Russia Must Be Held Accountable for All Conflicts It Instigated, Says Podolyak on 1992 Transnistria.
Russia's Responsibility for Conflicts in Transnistria
According to Novyny.live: Mykhailo Podolyak, an advisor to the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has called for a thorough investigation into the 1992 events in Transnistria. He stressed Russia's accountability for the armed conflicts it provoked in the post-Soviet era. The events of the 1990s in Transnistria, including mass killings, require detailed analysis and assessment. This region, internationally recognized as part of Moldova, has long been a source of tension.
Podolyak emphasized that Russia must answer for all the armed conflicts it instigated following the collapse of the USSR. He noted the critical importance of understanding what transpired in Transnistria in 1992.
"Do you not want to understand what happened in Transnistria in 1992? I, for one, believe we must get to the bottom of it,"the presidential advisor stated.
The Importance of Territorial Integrity
Furthermore, Podolyak highlighted the necessity of respecting territorial integrity and the laws that exist within a state.
"It is your territory, and your rules apply. If a person does not like your rules, they leave your territory,"he added. He also remarked that 'only an ultimatum-based approach can preserve independence and suppress separatism'.
Thus, according to Podolyak, the issue of Russia's responsibility for past conflicts remains pressing, and it is vital to examine it to prevent similar situations from recurring in the future.
Mykhailo Podolyak's statements underscore the importance of historical memory and accountability for military conflicts that have impacted regional stability. Investigating the 1992 events could serve as a crucial step in acknowledging and understanding past traumas, as well as in strengthening Ukraine's territorial integrity. This approach may help avert the repetition of conflicts born from separatism and external interference.
