Moldova has introduced new entry rules for vehicles: which documents are mandatory.
Drivers should be cautious when traveling to Moldova as the country has implemented new rules that may lead to entry denial. Travelers are advised to check their documents in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises at the border.
Moldova will only allow entry with a technical inspection certificate
Starting from the end of 2024, new requirements for vehicle entry into Moldova will come into effect. The main change is the mandatory possession of a technical inspection certificate. Without this document, it will be impossible to enter through the border, regardless of the type of vehicle - car, truck, or bus.
What is a service maintenance certificate
This document confirms the roadworthiness of the vehicle, including normal emissions levels, absence of serious mechanical damage, and compliance with safety standards. The document will be issued at certified service stations after the vehicle inspection. If a driver arrives at the border without this certificate, they will be denied entry and sent back to Ukraine.
List of mandatory documents
Although there is a visa-free regime between Ukraine and Moldova, to enter by car, one must have a foreign passport, a driver's license of the appropriate category, a vehicle registration certificate, a technical inspection certificate, a 'Green Card' insurance policy, and a paid road fee (vignette). The absence of even one of these documents may be grounds for entry denial.
What is prohibited to bring into Moldova
Customs rules also remain strict. It is forbidden to bring in narcotic substances and toxic materials, weapons and ammunition, prescription medications without proper documents, antiques and cultural valuables without permission, animal products (meat, dairy), seeds and saplings.
We draw attention of drivers planning to travel to Moldova to important new entry rules concerning the mandatory possession of a technical inspection certificate for vehicles. Having all necessary documents and adhering to customs rules will greatly simplify the border crossing process and help avoid troubles on site.
