EU launches a revolution in railway transport: how it will change travel across Europe.
The European Commission plans to introduce a new strategy for developing high-speed rail connections in Europe. The main goal is to make train travel competitive with air travel in terms of comfort, speed, and price. This was reported by 'The Guardian'.
The European Union is working to ensure that passengers choose the railway not only for its environmental friendliness but also for its convenience, accessibility, and rapid connections for long-distance routes. A coordinated network of tracks for trains traveling at speeds exceeding 250 km/h is planned to connect the capitals and major cities of EU countries. Clear objectives have been set: to increase transport volumes by 2030 compared to 2015 and to triple them by 2050.
To achieve these targets, key infrastructure issues need to be addressed, the market must be opened to new operators, rolling stock should be standardized, and national networks integrated into a single system with harmonized rules and standards. After the implementation of a convenient, affordable, and easy-to-book service, a significant increase in the number of passengers is anticipated. This is expected to be a step toward a future where travel between European cities is fast, comfortable, and attractive for most travelers.
Ukrzaliznytsia plans to introduce dynamic pricing with restrictions. This means that last-minute tickets will cost more, but this will not affect military personnel. It is also worth noting that due to a widespread error in transport, fines of up to 300 UAH can be imposed, which will be a significant burden on the budget for many pensioners.
The European Commission is working on a new strategy for high-speed rail connections in Europe aimed at making trains more competitive compared to air travel in terms of comfort, speed, and price. Plans include creating a coordinated network of tracks for trains that will connect the capitals and major cities of the EU, developing infrastructure, and increasing transport volumes threefold by 2050. Ukrainians are also expecting innovations from Ukrzaliznytsia, such as dynamic pricing and penalties for transport errors.
