Introduction of Synchronous Train Service between Kyiv and Lviv

According to ТСН: Ukrzaliznytsia is introducing synchronous train service on the popular route Kyiv — Lviv for the first time. This means trains will run on a regular schedule — every hour.

In the new schedule for 2026, which will come into effect on December 14, Ukrzaliznytsia is implementing a synchronous train service between Kyiv and Lviv. Trains will depart with a clear, stable, and repeatable frequency — every hour.

Most services will operate throughout the year with slight exceptions during 'off-peak' periods.

Advantages of Synchronous Train Service

Synchronous service is a system where trains depart at established, regular intervals. This format has long been used in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and other countries with developed railway infrastructure, and it has proven effective in Ukraine on Kyiv City Express routes.

For passengers, this innovation means maximum convenience: the service becomes predictable, trains depart every hour at the same time, and the schedule is easy to remember.

As for the railway itself, this model is beneficial as it allows for even distribution of passenger flows throughout the day and reduces peak loads.

It is also worth noting that the Cabinet of Ministers has made a decision that will make international trains more convenient for Ukrainians: border and customs control will now be conducted directly in the carriages during the train journey, without long stops at the border.

The introduction of synchronous service opens a new era in transportation between Kyiv and Lviv. It is expected that the convenient train schedule will increase demand for travel, simplifying travel planning. In addition, the new approach to transportation could serve as an example for other Ukrainian routes, improving transport accessibility in the country.
