Poland Officially Inducts F-35 Jets: How Many Fighters Are Heading to Its Military.
Poland's Formal Adoption of the F-35 Fighter Jet
According to UATV: On June 12, 2023, Poland formally placed into service the F-35 fighter jets it purchased from the United States. The handover ceremony took place at the tactical aviation base in Łask. The Polish military received its first three F-35s, which arrived from the U.S. in May 2023. Over the next several years, the country plans to acquire a total of 32 aircraft of this type.
As part of the delivery program, an additional 11 jets are scheduled to arrive at the Łask base in the coming months. Next year, Poland expects to receive another 12 fighters. Polish Defense Minister Karol Nawrocki emphasized the significance of this event, stating:
“Today is an important day for our homeland. Thanks to the fifth-generation F-35 'Hussar' multirole aircraft, the Republic of Poland is—and will remain in the years ahead—more powerful, stronger, and safer.” - Karol Nawrocki
This move underscores Poland’s commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities in the region.
Strategy for Modernizing the Armed Forces
The acquisition of the F-35 is part of Poland’s broader strategy to modernize its armed forces and strengthen national security amid a heightened international situation. Given the tense relations with Russia, this step can be seen as a signal of Poland’s readiness to defend its interests and ensure stability in Central and Eastern Europe. The arrival of these advanced combat aircraft may also help deepen Poland’s cooperation with NATO and other allies in the region.
