Poltava Region Woman Convicted for Disclosing Military Location Data

According to Novyny.live: A woman from the Poltava region has been convicted for sharing information about the movements of mobile Territorial Recruitment and Social Support (TRSS) groups. According to the Lubny City-District Court, the accused published data on the locations of military personnel on at least nine separate occasions between May and September 2022. TRSS groups are responsible for military conscription and support in Ukraine.

The verdict was delivered on February 12. The court stated the defendant entered into a plea agreement, admitted guilt, and transferred five thousand hryvnias to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Initially sentenced to five years of imprisonment, her punishment was commuted to a two-year probationary term. The court also ordered the confiscation of her iPhone 13 PRO MAX.

Significance of the Case

It is important to note that the verdict can be appealed within 30 days. This case highlights the critical issues of security and personal responsibility when handling sensitive information during wartime. The ruling reflects heightened scrutiny by Ukrainian authorities over the dissemination of data that could compromise state security. While the suspended sentence indicates a degree of judicial discretion, it also serves as a warning that such actions carry serious legal consequences. This matter remains pertinent in the broader context of maintaining military and informational security for the nation.
