Ukraine’s Education Reform

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is pushing forward with education reform, focusing on constructing underground schools to keep students safe in frontline areas. More than 200 such schools are already operational, providing secure learning environments for children. The government plans to add another 65 underground schools in 2023, highlighting the urgency of this initiative amid the ongoing conflict.

The average cost of each underground school is 150 million hryvnias.

As Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi stated, 'each underground school costs around 150 million on average.'
These investments aim not only to improve education but also to protect children studying in high-risk regions.

Blended Learning and System Adaptation

Additionally, between 150,000 and 180,000 children are being shifted to blended learning models as part of the reform.

Lisovyi emphasized: 'we have 200 schools built and will build another 65 this year.'
These steps reflect Ukraine’s drive to adapt its education system to new challenges and ensure safe schooling for all students.

Building underground schools is a direct response to wartime safety threats. Beyond physical protection, these efforts support children’s psychological well-being by offering a shielded space for learning. Successful execution of such projects could reshape the country’s educational future, allowing students to continue their studies even under extreme conditions.
