Mathematics in the NMT

According to Novyny.live: Olha Budnyk, advisor and commissioner for the Presidential Fund of Ukraine, has stated that retaking the mathematics portion of the National Multi-Subject Test (NMT) is possible, but she firmly opposes eliminating the subject from the exam. This position is echoed by Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, who has also categorically rejected any proposal to remove mathematics from the NMT. The NMT is a key standardized test for Ukrainian university applicants, and its structure has been a topic of national debate.

Mathematics is necessary.

Minister Lisovyi emphasized that every applicant must demonstrate basic knowledge during the admissions process. He also noted that information attacks surrounding the NMT are artificially undermining the confidence of Ukrainian teenagers in their own abilities.

The Role of Mathematics in Education

The stance taken by Olha Budnyk and Oksen Lisovyi on retaining mathematics in the NMT underscores the subject’s importance in Ukraine’s education system, particularly in preparing young people for higher education. Given the current challenges facing Ukrainian education, this decision may help strengthen trust in the knowledge assessment system and improve the quality of applicant preparation.

School administrators and teachers can now emphasize the relevance of mathematical skills in today’s world, which could positively influence future NMT results.
