Powerus and Swarmer Form Strategic Alliance

According to Espreso.tv: Powerus has announced a new collaboration with Ukrainian firm Swarmer, aimed at developing advanced drone software. This partnership emerges against the backdrop of the Pentagon’s Drone Dominance competition, a program designed to ramp up production of FPV drones. While the price tag for drones in that contest hovers around $5,000 per unit, a comparable drone built in Ukraine costs roughly $500.

For context, Ukraine and Russia are now manufacturing millions of drones annually, whereas the United States produces only about 50,000 drones per year. Powerus President Brett Velicovich stressed that

“this isn’t about removing humans from the equation”
, highlighting the continued importance of human involvement in drone operations.

The Drone Dominance Competition and International Deals

As part of the Drone Dominance initiative, the Pentagon has already inked contracts with several Ukrainian defense companies. In addition, the United Kingdom and Denmark have signed agreements to produce drones using Ukrainian designs. The German company Quantum-Systems plans to start assembling Vector reconnaissance drones in Ukraine starting April 2025. That firm recently became Europe’s first defense company to reach a market capitalization exceeding $1 billion.

Furthermore, a team of 10 to 12 Ukrainian drone operators during training exercises in Estonia reportedly 'decimated' two NATO battalions in simulated combat, underscoring the effectiveness of Ukrainian drone technology and tactics.

The Powerus-Swarmer partnership signals the growing influence of Ukrainian companies in the global drone market, especially in meeting military demands. Backed by the Pentagon, the Drone Dominance competition highlights the critical need for speed and innovation in defense technology. Given the impressive performance of Ukrainian drone operators in international drills, further collaboration between Ukrainian and Western firms in this sector is widely anticipated.
