Teachers lose pension benefits for service: when payments cease
Ukrainian education workers can receive two types of pension payments: age-related and length of service. Each type of pension has its own requirements and advantages. One of these types, in the case of being reinstated as a teacher, will lead to the cessation of pension payments.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine provides information about the pension appointment process for teachers. The process of assigning an age-related pension and other details of pension payments are described on the PFU website.

Age pension and assistance to teachers

According to the legislation, an age pension for education workers is assigned after reaching 60 years and having the required work experience. In 2025, the rules for retiring at age for teachers changed, requiring them to work one year longer.

Length of service pension is available for teachers aged 55 years. For education workers with a length of service from 25 to 26 and a half years, there is an opportunity to receive this type of pension. The list of positions and institutions that entitle to a length of service pension is established by the government decree dated November 4, 1993.

Pension payments for Ukrainian teachers can be assigned based on age or length of service. These payments have their own requirements and limitations, advantages and conditions. Any changes in employment after receiving a pension may lead to the cessation of these payments, so it is important to have a clear understanding of the conditions for receiving pensions before applying for them.
