US Presidential Race: Democrats Begin to Panic Over Harris.
Democrats Concerned About Issues Troubling Kamala Harris's Campaign
The Democratic Party was confident that Kamala Harris would defeat Donald Trump. But now, a month before the election, Democrats are starting to worry about issues troubling Harris's campaign.
On Tuesday, several Democrats were dissatisfied with Harris's interview on CBS's "60 Minutes". Democrats are also concerned about poll numbers, the candidate's messaging, and her position among various voter groups.
Democratic strategist Anthony Coley confirmed this anxiety and pointed to low poll numbers after the Democratic Party convention, when they compared Harris's campaign to Obama's 2008 campaign.
Now that the sugar high has passed, people have realized what Kamala Harris has been saying from the start, namely that she is an outsider - said Coley.
Despite this, Democrats are receiving some good news. For instance, Harris has won in the area of economics following strong employment reports and slowing inflation. A port strike that threatened the economy was also averted.
Several new polls also show an advantage for Harris. For example, a New York Times/Siena College poll showed Harris leading Trump nationally. A Reuters-Ipsos poll showed Harris having an advantage over Trump.
Overall, Democrats have been consistently worried about Trump since 2016, when he defeated Hillary Clinton. Therefore, they are eager to ensure he doesn't come back. In recent days, Harris has begun to appear more in the media, targeting her strategy at various voter groups who have yet to decide who to vote for.
