Ceasefire: Macron explains who will monitor this process.
The USA will lead the monitoring of the ceasefire in Ukraine
Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk supported the initiative to establish a 30-day ceasefire without conditions starting from May 12. The United States will take the lead role in monitoring.
Macron assured that over 30 countries of the 'coalition of the willing' will demand that a 30-day ceasefire without conditions begins on May 12. Merz added that U.S. President Donald Trump 'fully supports' this initiative.
Macron noted that the monitoring will be provided by the Americans, but all countries will participate, which will allow for immediate negotiations regarding infrastructure and security.
The leaders discussed the possibility of imposing massive sanctions against Russia in case of a ceasefire violation, which will be coordinated by the U.S. and Europe. It was also promised to enhance military assistance for Ukraine.
A Kremlin representative stated that before establishing a ceasefire, the West must stop supplying weapons to Ukraine. If Russia refuses to cease fire, new sanctions threaten.
Leaders of states and the Ukrainian president after the 'Coalition of the Willing' meeting contacted U.S. President Donald Trump. This is the first time leaders of France, Poland, Great Britain, and Germany visited Kyiv together during the war in Ukraine.
Analysis
Ukraine has received support from leading European countries and the U.S. in establishing a ceasefire with Russia. The united actions of countries in the area of monitoring and possible sanctions demonstrate their determination to stand up for Ukraine in the context of the conflict in the east of the country.
