According to ТСН: The situation on the front in Ukraine leaves much to be desired, but the internal difficulties of the Russian Federation may prove to be more serious.

Dmytro Zhmailyo, executive director of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, noted in an interview that US activity on certain issues may indicate their desire to avoid great chaos within the aggressor country.

Russia's Fear of a New 'Prigozhin'

The expert emphasized that Western allies, particularly the USA, are concerned about a scenario in which Russian statehood could quickly begin to collapse.

“We say that we are in a very difficult situation. We have a lot of problems - in the army, problems with mobilization. But if the Americans are so involved in saving Russia, it means that the problems in the RF are no less, and perhaps even greater,”
Zhmailyo noted.

He also added that Washington is worried about the possibility of a 'new Prigozhin', who in the event of a front collapse could plunge the nuclear state into uncontrollable chaos.

In addition, Ukraine is actively launching attacks on tankers of the Russian 'shadow fleet', which has triggered mixed reactions from international partners. The problem is that these vessels often change names and sail under the flags of African countries such as Sierra Leone or Gambia.

Zhmailyo stressed that Ukraine is acting like a 'cornered beast', forced to use all available means for attacks. Such actions have already led to a 20% drop in Russia's oil and gas industry.

The economic consequences of attacks on the enemy's energy infrastructure are increasingly affecting civilians in Russia:

  • As of September 2024, about 40% of capacities have been suspended due to logistical disruptions.

  • Russia is forced to import light oil products (gasoline and diesel) for the first time.

  • Approximately 360 private gas stations closed due to fuel shortages, which is now mainly directed to state-owned gas stations.

The expert noted that although the crisis is beginning to affect the Russian army, it is not yet felt on the front due to the tactics of the occupiers' 'infantry assaults'. Meanwhile, Ukraine plans to increase weapons production for even more massive attacks on enemy territory.

It should be noted that in the Black Sea, near the Turkish coast, two tankers, 'Kairos' and 'Virat', which were subject to international sanctions for transporting Russian oil, practically simultaneously exploded and caught fire.

Thus, the situation on the Russian front is becoming increasingly tense, and Ukraine's actions in the context of attacks on Russian shipping reflect not only a military but also an economic strategy in confronting the aggressor. This raises concerns among international partners, but the intensification of actions indicates Ukraine's readiness to address current challenges.
