Avian influenza in Germany: thousands of birds destroyed due to outbreak.
Avian influenza in Germany: increase in cases and control measures
According to inkorr.com: The number of avian influenza cases in Germany has sharply increased, prompting the government to take control measures and implement compensation for farmers. The country's Minister of Agriculture reported numerous cases of the disease among wild birds and on poultry farms. The most critical situation is observed near Berlin, where over 1,000 cranes have already died.
"Currently, numerous outbreaks of the disease are observed among both wild birds and on poultry farms. This is not unusual for this time of year. The very rapid increase in the number of infections over the past 14 days has highlighted the 'seriousness of the situation' and the 'importance of joint and coordinated actions,' he noted.
In response to these cases, euthanasia of about 15,000 birds is planned in Baden-Württemberg. The ministry has appealed to the European Union to raise the cap on compensation payments from 50 to 110 euros per animal to support farmers. Rainer emphasized the importance of preventing the spread of the virus, protecting animals, and minimizing losses for the agricultural and food sectors.
Situation with avian influenza: impact on humans
Avian influenza is dangerous for birds, but currently poses no threat to humans. In the United States, the first death from severe avian influenza H5N1 was recorded. The deceased was over 65 years old, had underlying health conditions, and contracted the virus after contact with birds. Strain D1.1 is considered very dangerous, and experts note that the increase in mortality was anticipated, although it remains a tragic case.
Therefore, avian influenza continues to spread actively in Germany, requiring urgent government measures to control the situation and support farmers. Despite the seriousness of the situation, risks to human health remain relatively low.
