The Chancellor of Germany doubts the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky

The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, is not convinced that Putin will agree to a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. His view is not supported by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who believes that the Kremlin has agreed to negotiations with the Ukrainian leader. However, Moscow has not yet announced its readiness for the summit, reported the TV channel FREEДОМ.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is open to any formats of negotiations at the leader level following a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and European leaders in Washington. According to Russia's proposal, the meeting may take place either bilaterally or trilaterally, with the participation of the United States. He also noted that European leaders supported the willingness to negotiate.

'The U.S. President has contacted the Russian side, and they discussed diplomatic initiatives. Russia proposed a bilateral and then a trilateral meeting. We are ready for any formats of negotiations at the leader level, as this is the only way to resolve the pressing issues. In this context, I confirmed my readiness to meet with Putin,' said Zelensky.

The Kremlin has not yet published an official statement on its readiness for the summit. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the need to prepare all negotiations at the highest level. And Putin's assistant on foreign policy, Yuri Ushakov, noted the possibility of involving higher levels of representation from Ukraine and Russia in the negotiations.

'It is important to me that this meeting brings a ceasefire in Ukraine. I believe this is only possible at the highest level, as President Zelensky also responded to an inappropriate meeting with Putin without a ceasefire. Future events are still uncertain,' he emphasized.

It is noted that Switzerland has expressed its readiness to host a summit between the President of Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, it guarantees the dictator that he will not be detained under the decision of the International Criminal Court. This is related to accusations of criminal actions against Ukrainian children from the occupied territories.

The Swiss Foreign Minister Ignacio Cassis confirmed the determination to hold the summit, emphasizing Switzerland's preparation and hospitality for the meeting between Ukraine and Russia.

In case Moscow refuses direct negotiations to end the conflict with Ukraine, Trump threatens new sanctions against Russia. European leaders also support increasing pressure on the aggressor. The President of Finland also spoke about the importance of ending the conflict but noted that Putin's goals remain unchanged.
