The Verkhovna Rada has dismissed the head of the SBU Malyuk: who will lead the service.
According to ТСН: On Tuesday, the Verkhovna Rada made a decision to dismiss the head of the Security Service, Vasyl Malyuk. This decision was supported by 235 deputies, and Malyuk himself was not present at the meeting.
The dismissal became known during parliamentary debates.
Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zhelezniak noted that the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense and Intelligence supported the dismissal of Malyuk by majority vote, although the day before the vote, it did not reach the required number of votes.
Dismissal of Malyuk
At the beginning of January, information emerged that Malyuk was offered to write a resignation letter and take another position, for example, to head the Foreign Intelligence Service or the post of Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council. According to TSN, there was a discussion between Volodymyr Zelensky and Malyuk, as the general was not eager to leave his position and noted that several important operations were coming to an end in the SBU.
On January 5, the president confirmed that Vasyl Malyuk is no longer the head of the SBU. In a comment on this decision, he noted that he would remain in the SBU system 'to implement asymmetrical special operations of global level, which will continue to inflict maximum damage on the enemy'.
Major General Yevhen Khmara was appointed to the temporary position of head of the SBU instead of Malyuk, according to the president's decree. Khmara had headed the Alpha special unit since August 2025.
This change in the leadership of the Security Service of Ukraine indicates a continuation of the president's policy of renewing leadership personnel in the law enforcement structures. In the context of security and military challenges that Ukraine currently faces, it is important to have effective management and coordinated actions of law enforcement structures.
