Emergency Teams Tackle Aftermath of Attack on Historic Monastery
According to UATV: More than 70 specialists and 24 pieces of equipment are currently on site as Ukrainian emergency crews work to address the destruction caused by a Russian military strike on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. The assault, which took place on the night of June 15, 2023, ignited a fire that spread across roughly 800 square meters. Officials from the Security Service of Ukraine have identified the weapon used as a ‘Geran-2’ drone.
The attack inflicted damage exceeding 500 million UAH, according to Maksym Ostapenko, Director General of the National Sanctuary. This historic site, one of Ukraine’s most treasured cultural landmarks, has suffered significant structural harm. The ongoing recovery efforts focus on clearing debris and stabilizing the affected areas.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the incident, stating: ‘The objects damaged by the strike will be restored.’
Work to mitigate the consequences of the shelling is still underway, with rescue teams continuing their efforts to repair the damage and preserve the site’s historical legacy.
