Reliance Industries Sends First Jet Fuel Shipment to Europe Following Russian Oil Ban.
Indian Jet Fuel Reaches European Market
According to UATV: For the first time since the EU banned imports of products made from Russian oil, Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries has exported aviation fuel to Europe. The delivery took place between February 1st and 4th, when an Indian tanker partially unloaded approximately 390,000 barrels of jet fuel at the port of Fiumicino, Italy. The vessel had arrived in Italy in early January, but unloading was delayed by three weeks due to adverse weather conditions. This shipment highlights how global energy trade routes are adapting in response to sanctions.
Market Impact and Strategic Shift
Reliance Industries operates two refineries in Jamnagar, one of which is dedicated to exports. The company had already announced on November 20, 2022, that it would cease processing Russian crude at its export-focused facility. To reassure European buyers, Reliance provided written guarantees confirming the absence of Russian oil in the fuel supplied to the EU. This move is part of a broader effort by European nations to diversify their energy sources away from Russia.
This event marks a significant development within the shifting global energy landscape, particularly under the ongoing ban on Russian oil which has disrupted European supply chains. The export of jet fuel from India signals the growing role of Indian refiners in the world energy market and illustrates how European countries are adapting their supply arrangements amidst the ongoing energy crisis and sanctions against Russia.
