Russia prepares Shaheds with phosphorus munitions: what it means for Ukrainians

Monitoring groups report that Russia is preparing 'Shaheds' with phosphorus munitions. An experimental batch has allegedly already been delivered to the Oryol region. The founder of the defense product manufacturing company First Contact, Valeriy Borovik, explained the increased danger posed by these munitions.

Borovik said this in an interview on the Morning.LIVE program on Wednesday, August 12.

Drones with phosphorus can kill from 150 meters

The expert explains that white phosphorus is formally allowed for use for smokescreen purposes; however, Russia uses such means for striking.

'Organic compounds that make up the human body can be charred. Meanwhile, clothing may remain. A person can inhale even from a distance of 150 meters from the strike zone. So you inhale these fumes — and everything inside you burns away', — he said.

Such munitions have already been used by the occupiers on the front. But if they start launching them from drones, as Borovik notes, it would be a 'serious escalation of prohibited means being used in this war.'

Recall that on August 9, long-range drones of the Special Operations Center 'A' of the SBU struck a logistics hub where ready-to-use 'Shaheds' are stored.

It was also reported that as of August 1, Russian forces launched nearly 30,000 drones over the territory of Ukraine. This figure is 11 times higher than the same period in 2024.

Events in Ukraine confirm the ongoing threats from Russia's aggressive actions and the use of prohibited weapons. This poses serious dangers to the civilian population and escalates the conflict in Donbas.
