Russia recruits Indians for war: shocking scheme involving drugs and blackmail

According to ТСН: The promises of the Kremlin to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned out to be mere empty words. While diplomats negotiate, Russian security forces continue their hunt for foreigners, attempting to turn them into 'cannon fodder' on the front lines in Ukraine.

Shocking details of this scheme were uncovered by fighters of the Third Army Corps, who captured an Indian citizen.

Courier, drugs, and Article 228

The hero of this story is 23-year-old Majoti Sahil (call sign 'Lucifer') from Gujarat. He came to Russia in search of new opportunities but fell into a trap.

The recruitment scheme for Sahil resembles a plot from a detective film:

  1. He was offered a side job as a courier.

  2. On the third day of work, he was given the coordinates of a package that turned out to contain drugs.

  3. At the scene, he was immediately detained by people in civilian clothes who did not identify themselves.

After this, the classic blackmail began: either face a long term in a Russian prison under Article 228 (which pertains to drugs in the RF), or sign a contract with the army. Sahil chose what he thought was the lesser evil, believing the contract would last a year.

‘When I arrived at the training ground, I was told: the contract ends when the war ends,’ says the captive.

Reality on the front: racism and beef

Instead of the expected ‘rear guard,’ after 16 days of formal training (‘one or two shots, throw a grenade – you’re ready’), Sahil was sent to the 164th Motorized Rifle Brigade near Kreminna.

Conditions for foreigners turned out to be horrific:

  • Forced to Sin: Hindus, for whom cows are sacred animals, are made to eat beef canned food, as they are given no other food.

  • Racism: Sahil constantly faces humiliation. ‘Why are you in my country?’ is the mildest thing he has heard from his Russian 'comrades-in-arms.'

  • Indifference: When the young man started having problems with his legs and couldn't walk, the group commander simply took away his radio and left him to die in the forest. It was thanks to this that he managed to contact the Ukrainian military from the 63rd Brigade and surrender.

Statistics of Lies

According to the data from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, since 2022, Russia has pulled 202 Indian citizens into the war:

  • 119 managed to return home through diplomatic efforts;

  • 26 have died;

  • 7 went missing;

  • 50 are still in the ranks of the occupiers' army.

Despite the efforts of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the RF in 2024, when promises were made to return all Indians, recruitment has only intensified. The number of agents luring foreigners is increasing, and their methods are becoming more brutal.

It should be noted that Russian prisoners recorded an appeal to Putin. The main question they ask is why they are not being exchanged.

This situation reflects the serious problems faced by foreigners in Russia. The number of forced recruitment and exploitation cases is rising, and promises of help turn out to be illusory. The Indian government and international organizations face challenges in trying to resolve this issue and protect their citizens.
