According to UATV: The fourth anniversary of the liberation of the Kyiv region is marked on April 2, 2022, when Ukrainian defense forces fully expelled Russian troops from the area. This victory was a turning point in the war, as hostilities had erupted there within the first hours of the full-scale invasion. The conflict lasted 36 days, causing severe damage to infrastructure and residential buildings across the region.
More than 26,000 homes were damaged during the fighting, with nearly 5,000 completely destroyed. The final act of de-occupation came with the liberation of the village of Ivankiv, which became a powerful symbol of Ukrainian success. A key milestone was also reached on April 1, 2022, when Ukrainian forces captured the town of Hostomel and the Antonov Airport, paving the way for restoring control over the entire Kyiv region.
