Drone Strike on Dnipro: High-Rise Building Destroyed and Civilians Wounded.
Strike on the City of Dnipro
According to UATV: On January 22, 2023, the Russian Federation carried out an attack on the city of Dnipro using unmanned aerial vehicles. This assault caused severe damage to a 16-story residential building, igniting a fire that covered an area of 200 square meters. This attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes on Ukrainian urban centers far from the front lines.
At the scene, over 50 rescue workers and 17 pieces of specialized equipment from Ukraine's State Emergency Service were deployed. They successfully rescued 16 people who had been trapped on the upper floors of the building during the attack. Tragically, the assault resulted in civilian casualties:
- 14 people were injured, including:
- A 14-year-old girl
- A 64-year-old woman
- An 88-year-old man
This incident underscores the perilous situation in the region and raises grave concerns for the safety of the civilian population. The situation remains dynamic, with emergency crews continuing their work on-site to mitigate the attack's aftermath and assist the victims.
Escalation of the Conflict in Ukraine
This event is part of a wider trend of escalating conflict in Ukraine, which has been ongoing since 2014. Attacks on civilian infrastructure, such as residential buildings, highlight the dangers faced by non-combatants and continue to provoke international condemnation. The war has seen a significant shift towards the use of long-range drones and missiles against cities.
The role of emergency services remains critical, as they strive to provide safety and support to victims amidst the ongoing warfare.
