Russian Strike on Zaporizhzhia Power Grid Leaves Over 53,000 Without Electricity.
Zaporizhzhia's Energy Infrastructure Targeted
According to UATV: On February 4, a Russian attack struck the energy system in Zaporizhzhia, cutting off power to more than 53,000 people. Repair crews are working to restore electricity, and service has already been returned to 43,000 customers.
Efforts to repair the damage are ongoing, but the situation remains difficult. This incident follows a similar strike on the city of Druzhkivka in the Donetsk region, which resulted in seven fatalities and eight injuries.
Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, provided an update on the situation and confirmed that restoration work is continuing.
Worsening Humanitarian Impact
This bombardment is part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, creating severe hardship for the population. Targeting energy systems creates particularly dangerous conditions during winter, when access to power and heat is critical for survival.
Restoring the power supply is a top priority for local authorities, yet the critical nature of the situation demands urgent action to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
