Kharkiv Struck by Overnight Assault on February 26
According to Novyny.live: Explosions rocked the city of Kharkiv overnight on February 26 following an attack involving 'Shahed' drones and ballistic missiles. The assault resulted in significant damage to residential buildings and civilian casualties. This attack is part of a wider pattern of strikes on Ukrainian urban centers far from the front lines.
Kharkiv Oblast remains under an air raid alert. Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed the explosions were the result of a drone attack. Two powerful blasts were heard, leading to widespread destruction. A direct hit struck a multi-story residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. In the Slobidskyi district, a fire broke out at the impact site, while a private house was destroyed in the Saltivskyi district.
The attack also severed contact wires for power networks and ruptured a gas pipeline. As of 05:10, seven people are known to have been injured in the incident.
The assault on Kharkiv serves as another stark reminder of the ongoing military actions in Ukraine, which continue to have severe consequences for the civilian population.
The shelling of residential areas underscores the vulnerability of cities in modern warfare, raising deep concerns among residents and the international community. The response of local authorities and emergency services will be critical for ensuring safety and restoring infrastructure in the aftermath of the attack.
