Kharkiv and Turin Forge New Partnership: Key Points of the Cooperation Agreement.
Kharkiv and Turin Join Forces
According to Novyny.live: The cities of Kharkiv, Ukraine, and Turin, Italy, have signed a partnership agreement focused on rebuilding infrastructure and launching joint initiatives. This milestone marks a significant step in deepening long-term ties between the two municipalities, as announced by Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov following his visit to Italy. The deal builds on collaborative efforts that began last year and includes several projects aimed at improving residents' quality of life.
What the Agreement Has Already Achieved
One of the first tangible outcomes of this partnership was Turin's donation of buses to Kharkiv, which has bolstered the city's public transport system. Mayor Terekhov commented:
“The buses provided by Turin were a lifeline during the severe winter blackouts, and today they operate reliably on city routes. The people of Kharkiv feel this support every single day.” - Ihor Terekhov
This initiative not only enhances transportation infrastructure but also helps the city cope with ongoing challenges.
Looking ahead, Kharkiv plans to fully renovate Tykhonov Square at 3 Klochkivska Street. Over 1.2 million Ukrainian hryvnias have already been allocated for developing the project's design documentation. The mayor also highlighted the social dimension of recovery:
“We can rebuild every bridge, every stadium, and every house—but what’s the point if people’s lives don’t improve? That’s why affordable housing is our main weapon against emigration.” - Ihor Terekhov
This agreement between Kharkiv and Turin represents a crucial step in Ukraine’s post-war reconstruction and the development of both cities. Engaging international partners helps address the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and upgrades Kharkiv’s infrastructure—a pressing priority during wartime. Ultimately, the partnership with Turin could become a cornerstone in rebuilding and revitalizing Kharkiv while enhancing the daily lives of its residents.
