Kharkiv Hit by Two Waves of Russian Drone Strikes, Injuring 12 and Damaging Dozens of Homes.
Drone Assaults Target Kharkiv
According to UATV: Russian forces launched successive drone attacks on the city of Kharkiv on March 9 and 10, causing civilian casualties and widespread damage to residential areas. The assaults, carried out using 'Geran-2' type drones, resulted in significant destruction and multiple injuries.
Attack Details and Aftermath
The first strike on March 9 saw an attack drone hit a residential district, wounding eight people. A follow-up series of attacks occurred on March 10, injuring four more individuals. These strikes damaged over six private houses, along with vehicles and the local power grid. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has increasingly seen civilian infrastructure become a target. One resident described the devastation:
"All the windows blew out, the ceiling collapsed, the doors—both the entrance and interior ones. We had spent three years on the renovations."
The scale of the destruction has caused profound distress among the local population and remains a major topic of discussion in the region. Attacks on residential neighborhoods underscore the escalating violence and raise serious concerns for civilian safety.
These incidents on Kharkiv reflect the intensification of a conflict now in its second year. They also highlight the growing use of modern warfare technologies like drones, which are becoming commonplace on the battlefield. Strikes within urban centers emphasize the persistent risks to non-combatants and call into question the effectiveness of measures in place to protect them.
