Russians attacked Odesa region with a ballistic missile: how the strike was repelled.
This night, Russian forces once again attacked the Odesa region with a ballistic missile. Additionally, there was recorded activity of enemy drones in the sky over the region — air defense was engaged against them.
This is reported by the Air Command 'South'.
Attack on Odesa Region
On the night of August 19, 2025, Russian forces launched an attack on the Odesa region with a ballistic missile. Preliminary data indicates that the RF Armed Forces launched an 'Iskander-M' from the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea. There are no casualties or injuries as a result of the strike.
Furthermore, during the previous day, August 18, the southern air defense of Ukraine destroyed one reconnaissance and eight strike enemy drones.
Threat of Ballistic Weaponry — What It Is
The main difference between a ballistic missile and a cruise missile is its flight trajectory.
A cruise missile flies like a regular airplane, while a ballistic missile ascends to significant heights of tens of kilometers and then falls onto the target. Its speed at certain stages of flight can exceed hypersonic speed, making it extremely difficult for air defense to combat such targets.
According to the Air Command 'South', this night Russian forces again attacked the Odesa region with a ballistic missile, and there was also activity of enemy drones. The air defense destroyed an enemy reconnaissance drone and eight strike drones. There was no direct threat to the civilian population as a result of these attacks, but the situation remains tense.
