Drone Strike on Odesa by Russia Kills One, Injures Six Civilians.
Odesa Hit by Major Drone Assault
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of February 13, 2023, the Odesa region came under a major Russian attack using strike drones that targeted civilian infrastructure. The assault resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man and left six others wounded, aged 31, 32, 37, 38, 49, and 53. This attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes on Ukrainian port cities, which are vital to the country's economy.
Extensive Damage to Civilian Property
The drone strikes caused significant damage to two 24-story residential buildings, a car dealership, and warehouse facilities. Additionally, nearly 30 vehicles were damaged in the attack. The destruction of civilian property has caused deep alarm among local residents who witnessed the events. One eyewitness, Mykhailo, shared his experience:
“They were flying and buzzing, and then they started hitting. First over there, and then right here. When they strike directly overhead, the fear becomes very real.”
The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the incident as a war crime under Part 2 of Article 438 of Ukraine's Criminal Code. This assault serves as another stark example of the conflict's escalation and the ongoing threat to civilian populations. Local authorities continue to assess the damage and provide necessary aid to the victims. The international community has repeatedly condemned such attacks on non-military targets, highlighting violations of international humanitarian law.
This incident underscores the persistent dangers faced by Ukrainian cities during the war and points to the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect civilians. The targeting of residential areas and civilian objects causes profound distress not only in the affected regions but across the nation, as it signifies an intensification of violence and collective trauma.
