Odesa Industrial Site Set Ablaze in Russian Drone Strike.
Drone Assault on Odesa, February 9
According to Novyny.live: In a nighttime attack on February 9, Russian forces struck the port city of Odesa with attack drones. The assault ignited a major fire at an industrial facility. Emergency services successfully extinguished the blaze, and officials confirmed there were no casualties or fatalities. This attack on a key Ukrainian port city is part of a recent, intense wave of strikes targeting the country's infrastructure.
To combat the industrial fire, a significant emergency response was deployed, including:
- 15 pieces of firefighting equipment
- 62 firefighters
- 2 specialized units and 5 personnel from the Municipal Rescue and Diving Service
The head of the Odesa regional military administration, Serhii Lysak, confirmed the industrial site was damaged in the strike. The blast wave shattered windows in a nearby religious building, but damage to residential buildings was reported to be minimal.
"Utility services have already worked on-site and promptly eliminated the consequences. No information about casualties was received," Lysak stated.Governor Oleh Kiper also confirmed the incident, noting,
"The enemy massively attacked Odesa with attack drones. An industrial enterprise was damaged, and the blast wave blew out windows in adjacent buildings. Fortunately, there were no casualties."
This incident follows a massive barrage on February 7, where Russia launched approximately 400 drones and 40 missiles at Ukraine, signaling a significant escalation in hostilities.
Russian Strategy and Regional Impact
The strike on Odesa is consistent with a broader Russian strategy of launching concentrated attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Recent days have seen a sharp increase in such assaults, which endanger civilian safety and threaten regional stability. Ukrainian authorities continue to implement measures to protect the population and mitigate the consequences of these attacks.
