Kyiv Targeted as Russia Launches Cruise Missiles from Tu-95MS Bombers.
Ukraine Comes Under Missile Attack from Tu-95MS Aircraft
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of July 6, Russia launched a coordinated assault on Ukraine, firing cruise missiles from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers. The attack unfolded overnight, with missiles detected in Ukrainian airspace. A Tu-95MS aircraft had taken off from the Olenya airbase, located in Russia's Murmansk region.
At 02:49, the missiles entered Ukrainian airspace over Sumy Oblast. By 03:00, they were tracked moving from Chernihiv and Poltava regions toward Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously warned of a potential combined attack, signaling the country's preparedness for such threats. The Ukrainian Air Force reported:
“Attention! Several Tu-95MS aircraft have been observed taking off from the Olenya airbase.”
Based on their flight path, the primary target of this strike was Kyiv. These attacks highlight the escalating military actions and Russia's continued efforts to inflict damage on Ukraine's capital.
This incident is part of the broader escalation in the Ukraine-Russia conflict, which has been ongoing since 2014. The deployment of strategic bombers like the Tu-95MS underscores the severity of the threat and the potential for further missile launches from Russian territory. In response to warnings from Ukrainian military officials, the country is actively strengthening its defense capabilities against the aggressor's actions.
