Russia's 'Okhotnik' Drone and Su-30SM Fighter to Operate as a Team, Mirroring U.S. Air Combat Concept.
Military Technology and Unmanned Systems
According to TSN.ua: Russia is working to replicate the U.S. Collaborative Combat Aircraft concept by integrating the heavy, long-range S-70 'Okhotnik' strike drone with the Su-30SM fighter jet. Under this scheme, one pilot would fly the Su-30SM while a second crew member controls the accompanying drones. The S-70 'Okhotnik' is designed to significantly enhance the combat capabilities of Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian drones have become a decisive factor on the battlefield, inflicting heavy losses on Russian equipment. It is estimated that unmanned systems are responsible for approximately 80% of Russian equipment losses. This underscores the strategic importance of drone warfare in modern conflicts, a lesson being learned globally.
Growing International Interest in Ukrainian Tech
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans to sell drones abroad, signaling rising international interest in the country's unmanned aerial vehicle technology. In the context of contemporary warfare, as noted by Vladimir Popov,
“For the next few decades, priority in the air force will remain with manned aircraft.”
Consequently, the parallel development of both manned aircraft and unmanned systems continues to play a crucial role in securing military advantage. The situation remains dynamic, and the future steps taken by both sides could substantially influence the conflict's trajectory.
The frontline reality demonstrates how drone technology has become a pivotal element of modern warfare, shaping the strategic decisions of all involved. Integrating unmanned systems into combat units could alter the balance of power, making the further evolution and battlefield application of these technologies a key determinant of military outcomes.
