Russia concerned about expenses for continuing the war in Ukraine – ISW.
The Russian government is worried about the expenses for the war in Ukraine and compensations for Russian soldiers. This is reported by ISW.
The Ministry of Defense of Russia has proposed a bill whereby Russian military personnel must return one-time payments if they violate discipline or evade service.
Analysts believe that this initiative is aimed at maintaining discipline among Russian military personnel, especially in light of complaints about unacceptable treatment of soldiers by the command.
Moreover, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has expressed his concerns about the economic stability of the country, particularly due to the reduction of payments to injured soldiers.
According to The Moscow Times, Russia is spending on the war in Ukraine more than 80% of its regions. The budget for next year envisages military expenditures of 13.2 trillion rubles, or $95.4 billion.
Russia may continue the war against Ukraine thanks to revenues from oil sales and sanctions. The country is experiencing almost full employment and rising wages.
