Moscow Refuses Preconditions for Negotiations

According to Espreso.tv: Russia has rejected the demand to halt its military forces along the current front line as a prerequisite for launching peace talks with Ukraine. This position was outlined by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who emphasized that Moscow will not agree to stop at the line of contact as a condition for beginning negotiations over Ukraine.

A Matter of Principle for the Kremlin

Lavrov described the issue as fundamentally important for Russia.

“We will not stoop to temporary, intermediate solutions, and certainly not accept ultimatums dictated by anyone,”
the minister stated. He also expressed confidence that a political and diplomatic resolution to the situation in Ukraine remains entirely achievable.

It is worth recalling that on June 23, Vladimir Putin affirmed Russia’s readiness for peaceful talks with Ukraine based on the agreements reached in Istanbul in 2022. However, this willingness does not extend to conditions involving a halt in military operations on the battlefield.

By refusing to stop its troops at the line of contact, Russia may complicate peace negotiations and prolong the conflict’s escalation. Statements from Russian officials indicate Moscow is open to dialogue but unwilling to make concessions, raising doubts about the possibility of a compromise. The situation remains tense, and the next moves by both sides will determine the conflict’s trajectory.
