The Frontline Situation in Zaporizhzhia Oblast

According to TSN.ua: While Russian propaganda claims Ukraine has launched a large-scale counteroffensive in Zaporizhzhia, the reality on the ground is different. Ukraine's Armed Forces are conducting tactical counterattacks, which should not be mistaken for a full strategic counteroffensive. The primary reasons for Ukrainian successes stem from systemic Russian failures, including:

  • breakdowns in Russian military communications;
  • the combat ineffectiveness of Russia's 5th Army;
  • the severe depletion of Russian resources.

Available data indicates Russia's 5th Army has suffered over 20,000 casualties since September 2025. This staggering loss has critically undermined Russian defensive capabilities. Furthermore, Russian forces have begun retreating in Zaporizhzhia Oblast after losing access to Starlink satellite internet, which has crippled their command and control. These developments highlight how logistical and technological weaknesses are compounding Russia's battlefield problems.

Ukrainian Counterattack Operations

Military analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko observed:

“The shift from static defense to counterattacks is a normal occurrence, something we have observed repeatedly throughout 2025.”

He added:

“By labeling local Ukrainian counterattacks as a 'large-scale counteroffensive,' the Russian command is attempting to justify its loss of positions.”

This indicates a clear attempt by Russian officials to obscure the true state of affairs on the front.

On specific sections of the front, particularly in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Ukrainian forces have pushed the enemy back from:

  • Novooleksandrivka;
  • Verbove;
  • Vyshnevе.

In the Hatchul River area, the enemy was pushed from Ternuvate and Kosivtsе to the river's left bank. Additionally, on the Stepnohirsk bridgehead, Ukrainian troops maintain control of Stepnohirsk and are clearing enemy forces from Prymorske and Lukianivka.

Therefore, despite Russian propaganda claims, the actual frontline situation demonstrates successful Ukrainian tactical counterattacks, driven by internal Russian military failures. The continuation of such Ukrainian actions could significantly impact the conflict's trajectory, as the degradation of Russian armies opens new opportunities for Ukrainian military operations. Monitoring these events remains crucial for understanding the overall dynamics of the war in the region.
