Ukraine's Energy Grid Under Siege: Russia Launches Thousands of Drones and Missiles in a Single Month.
Russia's Sustained Assault on Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: Russian forces have intensified their campaign of mass attacks against Ukraine, with the nation's energy infrastructure serving as a primary target. In February alone, Russian aggressors launched approximately 1,300 attack drones, over 1,200 guided aerial bombs, and 50 ballistic missiles. The regions of Odesa, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy all came under fire. These systematic strikes represent a deliberate strategy to cripple Ukraine's civilian power supply, a tactic Russia has employed since the early stages of the full-scale invasion.
During the night of February 14-15, the Russian army carried out a drone attack on Ukraine, resulting in significant destruction. The bombardment of Zaporizhzhia Oblast led to civilian casualties, with reports of both deaths and injuries. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the strategic intent behind the onslaught, stating,
"The main target of these strikes is our energy sector. The Russians are deliberately combining their attacks to destroy our power generation, substations, and the entire grid."
International Support and Energy Security
Amid the escalating attacks, President Zelenskyy also reported securing agreements with leaders of the Berlin Format in Munich for specific packages of energy and military aid to be delivered to Ukraine by February 24. He stressed the urgent daily need for air defense systems, noting,
"Ukraine needs air defense every single day to deprive Russia of its instruments of terror."These developments underscore the continuation of Russia's aggressive policy and the critical necessity of strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
The ongoing situation highlights the vital importance of sustained international support for Ukraine, particularly concerning energy security and defense. As Russian assaults intensify, ensuring reliable protection for Ukraine's increasingly vulnerable infrastructure is paramount. Strong partnerships with international allies and the timely provision of military assistance remain decisive factors in countering the aggression and maintaining national resilience.
