Russia Shifts War Strategy, Targeting Railways and Water Supplies.
Russia's New Military Approach
According to TSN.ua: Russia has adopted a new tactic in its war against Ukraine, launching mass strikes against critical infrastructure, specifically railways and water supply facilities. On February 22, 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian forces are increasingly targeting these vital systems, which significantly raises the risk to the civilian population.
"When logistics targets, primarily railways, and facilities that provide water supply are increasingly becoming the objectives," the President noted. This strategic shift represents a move to cripple Ukraine's logistical backbone and public utilities.
Strengthening Defensive Measures
In response, Zelenskyy has ordered enhanced protection against Russian drones in Ukraine's border regions. He stressed the importance of applying the defensive experience gained in frontline areas to other territories, particularly in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions.
"The experience of our frontline regions must be fully and effectively extended to the Sumy region and to Chernihiv region as well," he added.
This development underscores the ongoing threat of Russian terrorist acts in Ukraine and the urgent need to bolster air defense systems. Facing these new challenges, Ukrainian authorities must act swiftly to protect civilian infrastructure and people. The use of these new tactics by the Russian army indicates an escalation of the conflict and necessitates Ukraine's adaptation to evolving security conditions. Reinforcing the protection of critical infrastructure is now a paramount task for the Ukrainian government, as it directly impacts civilian safety. Given the persistent aerial threat, further steps to strengthen air defense are critically important to prevent devastating attacks and ensure national stability.
