According to UATV: On June 7, 2023, Russian forces launched a strike on the area surrounding the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, hitting one of the buildings at the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the structure suffered partial damage as a result of the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the incident, stating that
“the site is extremely critical infrastructure.”He also emphasized that
“Russia deliberately targeted this nuclear infrastructure facility.”Despite the damage, Zelenskyy noted that “as of now, radiation levels have not exceeded normal limits,” indicating no immediate serious threat to the public.
