Hospital in Kherson Targeted by Attack

According to TSN.ua: Two female healthcare workers, aged 49 and 63, sustained blast injuries, concussions, and shrapnel wounds after Russian military forces shelled a hospital in Kherson's Dniprovskyi district. The assault occurred around 12:20 p.m. During the bombardment, the hospital's laundry facility was also struck by rockets from a multiple launch rocket system. Attacks on medical facilities are considered war crimes under international law.

Widespread Assaults Across Ukraine

In a separate, large-scale attack overnight on February 16, the Russian military launched four "Zircon" missiles, an "Iskander-M" ballistic missile, a Kh-31P guided air-to-surface missile, and 62 drones against Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense forces reportedly intercepted or neutralized two of the "Zircon" missiles. The assault destroyed a municipal infrastructure facility in Konotop, located in the Sumy region.

This follows another attack on February 15, when Russian forces targeted medical infrastructure in the city of Sumy. These incidents are part of a broader pattern of Russian aggression deliberately impacting Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. The ongoing war has seen a systematic erosion of protections for non-combatants and essential services.

The targeting of hospitals and critical infrastructure underscores the mounting peril for civilians in Ukraine. Such actions violate international norms designed to protect medical personnel and facilities during conflict. This hospital strike, coupled with the massive missile barrage, signals a dangerous escalation and highlights the urgent need for reinforced international efforts to safeguard civilian lives and medical institutions in the war zone.
