Russia has modernized X-101 and Iskander missiles: how the threat to Ukraine has increased

According to ТСН: Russia has significantly improved its main types of missiles, taking into account the experience of full-scale warfare. The X-101 and Iskander-M missiles now pose an even greater threat to Ukraine.

The Director of Development of the defense enterprise Anatoliy Khrapchynskyy stated that the updates to the X-101 cruise missiles include changes in technical parameters, improvements in electronics, and increased resistance to interception.

Expert's Commentary

The expert also expressed concern about one aspect: the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine emphasizes the presence of Western components in Russian missiles, but pays little attention to Belarusian components.

“Although they are becoming increasingly common — and this is the main problem: they have learned how to produce them”

Modernization of Iskander-M

According to Khrapchynskyy, the Iskander-M ballistic missile has undergone significant modernization: it can now fire decoys, perform sharp maneuvers with overloads of up to 30g, and find 'blind' zones of Patriot systems and other air defense complexes.

Other types of missiles are also capable of penetrating Ukrainian air defense systems, especially when launched from ground platforms near the border and flying at low altitudes, when the time to detect the target is significantly reduced.

Previously, the head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ihnat, noted that Russia is testing modernized missiles flying along quasi-ballistic trajectories, complicating the work of Patriot systems. Updated Iskanders and Kinzhal missiles use electronic countermeasures, which, combined with air defense overload tactics, creates new risks for critical infrastructure.

All these modernizations indicate Russia's desire to enhance its missile capabilities, making the situation in the region even more tense. With the intensification of military threats, Ukraine must continue to improve its air defense system and seek new ways to counter modern challenges. These changes in tactics and technology require constant attention to ensure the safety of important facilities and the population in wartime conditions.
