Three Killed in Russian Drone Strike on Workers at Sloviansk Thermal Power Plant.
Drone Strike Targets Power Plant Personnel
According to Novyny.live: A Russian drone struck a vehicle carrying employees of the Sloviansk Thermal Power Plant on February 17. The attack resulted in three fatalities and left one energy worker wounded. This incident underscores the escalating dangers faced by civilian staff at critical infrastructure facilities in the conflict zone. Such strikes on energy sector personnel threaten regional stability and the functioning of essential services.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal commented on the event, stating: 'In the morning, Russian criminals attacked a car with workers of the Sloviansk Thermal Power Plant with a drone. Unfortunately, three people died. One energy worker was wounded. My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones.'
He further emphasized that the strike was deliberate and targeted, as the drone operator understood they were attacking civilians. 'This is a war crime and its perpetrators must be punished,' Shmyhal added.
A Pattern of Attacks on Critical Workers
This attack follows a series of similar incidents, including a strike on a bus carrying miners in the Dnipropetrovsk region in early February, as well as attacks on fire-rescue units and energy workers performing repairs in the Donetsk region. These events heighten public alarm and highlight the severe risks for personnel maintaining vital infrastructure during wartime. The ongoing conflict has seen civilian infrastructure and workers increasingly become targets.
This tragedy highlights the growing threats to civilians employed in critical sectors due to continued hostilities. Attacks on energy workers and other essential service personnel can have profound consequences for regional stability. It raises urgent questions about civilian safety in armed conflicts, necessitating sustained international attention and support.
