Ukraine to Retake More Land Than Russia Has Seized This Year, Says PM Shmyhal.
Recapturing Occupied Territory
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is projected to liberate a larger area this month than the territory Russia has managed to occupy since the start of 2026. According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal, the front-line situation is stabilizing, and Ukrainian defense forces are inflicting severe losses on Russian troops.
At the Ukraine Recovery Conference currently underway in Gdańsk, discussions are focusing on next steps in countering the aggressor. Shmyhal emphasized that Russia is paying a heavy price for the war, as evidenced by substantial battlefield casualties. Over the past two weeks, Russian forces have notably reduced their assault operations near the Pokrovsk front, signaling a shift in their battlefield tactics.
Intense Front-Line Situation
The situation along the front remains tense. Russia has amassed troops roughly 40 kilometers from Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka, potentially setting the stage for renewed offensive attempts. As a soldier from the 54th Brigade reported,
“Russia launched its summer assault on the front line at the cost of enormous losses.”
Given these circumstances, the next moves by Ukrainian defense forces will be critical in stabilizing the region.
The front-line dynamics in Ukraine continue to shift, with signs that both sides may be rethinking their strategies. The observed reduction in Russian assault activity could indicate either depleted resources or a tactical reassessment, which in turn opens up opportunities for Ukrainian forces.
The discussions at the Gdańsk conference underscore the international community’s continued support for Ukraine as it works to restore its territorial integrity—a crucial factor as the conflict grinds on.
