Deadly Attack on Emergency Medical Vehicle in Kharkiv Oblast

According to UATV: On March 15, 2023, Russian forces targeted an ambulance in the Kharkiv region using an FPV drone. The strike occurred in the Kupyansk district as the vehicle was traveling through the village of Krasna Volna, part of the Velykyi Burluk hromada. This attack is part of a broader pattern of intensified hostilities in eastern Ukraine.

The assault claimed the lives of a medical technician and a 27-year-old paramedic who were inside the ambulance. A third healthcare worker, a 53-year-old man, sustained multiple injuries and is currently hospitalized. This incident adds to a growing list of attacks on medical personnel and infrastructure in conflict zones, following previous large-scale Russian strikes on the Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv regions, and the city of Kherson.

Outrage and Growing Dangers for Healthcare Workers

The targeting of a medical transport vehicle has sparked widespread outrage and deep concern, as healthcare professionals increasingly become victims of wartime violence. This event highlights the severe risks medics face while performing their duties in active combat areas.

This episode underscores the escalating dangers for medical workers in Ukraine, where their life-saving missions are frequently turned into targets amid armed conflict. The ambulance attack has alarmed not only the medical community but also civilians who depend on emergency care in critical moments. It further emphasizes the urgent need to safeguard healthcare workers and infrastructure during war—a core requirement under international humanitarian law.
