Expectations are related to a possible change in the presidential administration and potential changes in the foreign policy course. 'Novatek' hopes to use its special tax status as an argument to convince Western partners that the company is not directly financing military actions.

A representative of the US State Department, Jeffrey Pyatt, is categorically opposed and stated that now is not the time for regular business dealings with Russia, emphasizing the need to maintain sanctions pressure.
