The largest Russian producer of liquefied natural gas 'Novatek' has begun active diplomatic efforts to restore relations with the United States, trying to overcome the consequences of sanctions against its Arctic LNG 2 project.

This was reported by Reuters.

The company has sent its top executive Denis Solovyov to Washington for negotiations with an American lobbying firm, aiming to lift sanctions and restore communication with government structures. This is happening against the backdrop of critically strained relations between Russia and the USA caused by Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Expectations are related to a possible change in the presidential administration and potential changes in the foreign policy course. 'Novatek' hopes to use its special tax status as an argument to convince Western partners that the company is not directly financing military actions.

A representative of the US State Department, Jeffrey Pyatt, is categorically opposed and stated that now is not the Time for regular business dealings with Russia, emphasizing the need to maintain sanctions pressure.
