Money Embezzled for the Burial of Soldiers: Officials of Odesa City Council Exposed.
In Odesa, a scheme of embezzling budget funds designated for the burial of soldiers who died fighting for Ukraine has been uncovered. According to the investigation, the criminals overpaid for services and then distributed the illegally accumulated funds.
“The criminal mechanism consisted of the participants signing contracts at inflated prices, and they distributed the 'difference' among themselves,” the investigation noted.
As a result of the expertise, it was established that the criminals siphoned off more than half of the allocated funds for monuments in Odesa. Law enforcement suspects the organizers and participants of the scheme and is deciding which preventive measures to apply.
This is not the first case of corruption in the Ukrainian army—earlier a scheme was uncovered related to the procurement of military equipment, where a specific company illegally won and received contracts.
The discovery of the corruption scheme in Odesa related to the embezzlement of budget funds for the burial of soldiers is yet another example of violations in the Ukrainian army. The police are already conducting an investigation and trying to clarify all the circumstances of the case, as well as to take appropriate measures to prevent similar situations in the future.
